A new day and new power. On Monday, April 6, we we boarded the train at Duncan, Arizona, and headed to Lordsburg, New Mexico, with locomotives 8536 and 8522 on the train. |
|
At Lordsburg, the train was turned and we headed north
to Clifton, Arizona, following the Gila River much of the way.

Clifton is located in a narrow valley surrounded by soaring cliffs - thus its name. Our train was parked at the Clifton Station near the end of the line while everyone ate lunch at the nearby American Legion Hall. |
|
While at Clifton, the Freeport Copper train came into
the yard, adding to the many photo opportunities here.

Here is another photo as the crew of the copper train works the yard at Clifton. |

Leaving Clifton, our train fought its way up a steep
grade, passing through six tunnels in less than three miles, a magnificent
end to our two-day charter. SARM thanks the folks at the Arizona Eastern
for allowing and operating the trip.
