Oh - so that's how they build a tunnel! We are entering tunnel #4, a short 221-foot, timber-lined tunnel.

One of the highlights of the trip over the IN&P was exploring its heritage. At Smith's Ferry, passengers were able to explore a former Union Pacific section house, one of several still standing along the line.

Other rail artifacts found along the line were a number of former boxcars that were used as tool sheds and maintenance-of-way employee housing. This one is at Smith's Ferry, Idaho.

Passengers and train staff conduct a planning session at Smith's Ferry, Idaho. As always on our trips, the paying passenger has a big say on where we take photos.

Hawthorn, Idaho - milepost 85.60. This view shows clearly how the railroad is wedged between the wild Payette River and the surrounding mountains.

A shot worth losing the seat of your pants for! It's our last set of runbys of the day, performed at the northernmost crossing of the Payette River, about 10 miles south at Cascade, Idaho. Photographers scaled hilltops throughout the area for their final photos of the day.

For those tired from a day of mountain goat runbys, this was the shot as the train performed another runby while crossing the North Fork of the Payette River near Cascade.
